Thanks guys, I dont work under the layout as neck is fused stiff as a plank LOL Being I run all my track feeders to the feeder blocks on the front of the facia, I will use two solid pair of wires down the wall, dropping into a large electrical cabinet on the isle side of the shop, (to hide the larger holes in the base) then a RCA jack.
Been pondering over this for two days now...perhaps I was to close to the forest....couldnt see the trees LOL
Thanks for getting me over center owe ya Take care...John
What about audio jacks for headphones etc.
Glue the jack to the structure base and glue the plug into a recess in the table top, or the other way around. To disconnect the wiring just lift the structure away from the table, pulling the plug from the jack as you lift. To set the building in place, align the plug to insert into the jack and set the building down, pushing the plug into the jack and the wiring is connected. A false wall can help hide wiring or you could use copper tape perhaps.
How often do you plan to do this, and how easy is it to work under your layout?
For most buildings with interiors, I'll run the lights through a conduit made of a straw or coffee stirrer. The wires below can be just twisted to the power bus, or you can use a terminal block. They are relatively easy to remove either way for maintenance.
I've got a couple of buildings which detatch using Fahenstock clips. They're kind of awkward. I have some liftoffs where I've run multiple wires through multi-line connectors (plug and jack type) that work OK.
Miniatronics makes some small ones that come on a strip, but can be cut down to support any smaller number of conductors.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Just off the top 'o me head [bein' part Irish]; what about microswitches? If they were imbedded in layout surface and building held then in 'on' position, when t'was was lifted, they'd open, killing all circuits wired through them. Would this work for you? T'would be the way I'd go, if facing same problem. TTFN.....Old Tom aka papasmurf in NH
Just about finnished with a run through locomotive shop, the base of the shop is removable and I used instrement test lead wire sodered to the track and connected to a DCC terminal block.
However I also want to remove the shop, leaving the floor in place and this works very good for detailing, cleaning track and such..
Have two circuits 17.1v DC, one is a 4 Led, using spring wire to look like conduet under the red iron, the other is 7 16v grain of wheat type bulbs. But regardless of what type of light I use I need to disconnect both circuits as I lift the shop off its foundation.
I want to take inside pictures without seeing any wires, Shop is 8 in X 27in, Kinda considering a false wall or spade connecrors.
So If you have a better solution I wold love to hear it, Thanks in advance ...Take Care....John
