MRC Decoder address
Posted by WardR on Sunday, March 6, 2011 2:51 PM

Hi All,

I have  the prodigy wireless system, i have a loco I want to program wiht the numbers 610 and if I put that in it never takes, yet anything under 256 works, do i have to program a long address for 610 and if so how do i do it??  A friend did it on his NRC and it seemed easy, should  be that easy with MRC i am probably doing something wrong?

Thabnks any help is appreciated!!

After you think you have changed the address to 610, are you then changing CV 29 as a separate programming step to tell the decoder to use the long address?   I'm not familiar with an MRC system, but maybe you have to do this as a totally separate programming step.

The usual value for CV 29 to use a long address would be 34.

Ward, I have a Prodigy Advance Squared and I havent had any problems programming locos except once. I was programming on the main and I moved the loco closer to where my main bus wires where connected to the track and it worked fine. I just have the buss wires attached at one point because this is all just a temporary set up. The Prodigy system is easy, you dont have to mess with CV 29 to use long or short addresses. Try entering 0610. Try moving your loco closer to the power source. Give us some more info. Loco brand, decoder brand, is it a Prodigy Advance wireless system?

Hi,

I will try that and see if it takes the code closer  , i have the prodigy advanced wireless, the high end one. I know I have tried to do it on the main and program track and for some reason it does not take the 601 the decoder is a Tsunami, and I thought i read something that the tsunamis may need to be programmed via the long address < I tried that and i am notr sure how to do it.

Thanks again for your reply!!

I installed a Tsunami decoder in a Proto 1000 C LIner and it programmed in about 5 sec. Are you sure your doing all the steps? You should be able to just set the loco on the mainline, press Prog mainline button, press enter. Then press  3 for the location and 610 for the address. Have you tried to reset everything to the factory settings  then try again?

Are you trying to change the long address from another long address? If so, that's not possible with any DCC decoder when programming on the main. You have to have the short address selected to change the long address. Long address selected to change its short address

a friend has the same system and had to buy this booster card from tsunami to program the loco I am going to try over on his layout. doing what you suggested it just keeps the #3 address, of course it seems anything under like the 200's is ok.

That may indicate some sort of system problem particularly if the cutoff is 256. Numbers in the 200's are long addresses just as the desired 610 is, so if a number in the 200's works then CV29 is getting properly programmed. Could be the decoder, too.
