I didn't have any trouble programming my Spectrum 45 ton loco with my NCE Power Pro system. No additional resistor was needed.
I suggest that you read all that you can about decoder programming using Digitrax products on the Digitrax web site.
Elmer.
The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.
(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.
By default it should say AD2=? until you click the left knob to make it say AD4=?
With the display saying AD2=? turn the right knob to the address you want.
Common with Bachmann's cheapy decoders, you may have to put a 1K resistor across the track for programming, to make it generate enough current draw that the system can see the CVs are being accepted. You cna also try Direct mode, Pd instead of Paged.

I purchased a Spectrum GE 45 ton switcher. It has a factory installed decoder. I would like to change the address from 03 which was set at the factory to 11. I have a Digitrax Empire Builder with a DT300 throttle. I followed the instructions, but couldn't get it to program. I do believe the Digitrax instructions were flawed in that they said to set the address I want to program using the left throttle knob, but I believe you use the right knob for that. I used the Digitrax prefferred pg mode and it wouldn't accept the new address. Should I use a different programming mode, and if so which one? Also, am I correct about setting the two digit address with the right throttle knob. All my other locos have a four digit address and I haven't done a two digit one till now. All help will be appreciated. Thank you!
