Has anyone who uses servos dealt with Hobbyking for servo extensions? I need the 60cm ones and Tam Valley doesn`t carry them & I don`t want to make them.

But over on the Yahoo Small Layout Design Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/small-layout-design/) there has been extensive discussions of servos and their use and misuse in model railroading. Some links to some documented experiments are there, too. Might be worth joining the group and taking a look at the archive.

Servo Extensions are common with RC airplanes. Check hobby shops that sell RC airplanes.

I bought some from the same Chinese distributor on eBay that I got my servos from. They're all pretty much the same, sometimes they will use different colors but all you need to do is make sure they match at both ends - whatever color the red is next to at one end, it should be next to at the other end.
The LHS should have them if they sell RC planes, but one there will probably cost you what 10 will on eBay. Downside of the eBay method is it takes about 2 weeks to get stuff shipped from CHina, so if you need it TODAY the LHS is the only way. Or getting some 3 conductor cable and cutting the existing lead and adding in your own wire.

Randy I have already checked with 2 local RC hobby shops and their prices are way out of line. I sent an e mail to Planemodel99 about their shipping costs and being in no hurry will order from them if I get a favorable reply about the shipping costs. They state that each additional item is $7.29 to ship but having heard horror stories about ambigious advertising, shipping and handling charges I want to make sure that they are referring to a packet of 20 as being 1 item and not being 20 items. These guys are cheaper by far than anyone on line so I thought this was a way of recouping some of their costs. Once one of these out of country guys charge your CC good luck in trying to recoup the credit. I don`t wnat to spend the time or cost of modifying extensions.
The Chinese guys on eBay don;t get my credit card, I pay through PayPal. I've ordered 3 times formt he same gorup, several batches of servos as well as the extension cables, with no problems. There was a delay over the Christmas holiday and I was beginnign to worry if I might have been ripped off (for a whole $15), but they kept telling me it was an issue with US Customs - and sure enough when the package FINALLY arriaved this was the problem - I guess they can;t tell RC servos from potential explosive devices or something. The psotmark from CHina was when the sellers told me it was sent, it just actually took it that long to get through a US airport and then sent on to me hereon the east coast.
The name of the eBay seller I used is abeyerr. Others sell the same servos and cables. They are all eBay stores, not auctions, just read it carefully - some include shipping, some do not. Right now they have 10x 300mm extensions for $3.39 with free shipping - and it comes airmail, not slow boat. I always got the shorter extensions since almsot every one of mine is close to the fascia - maximum width of my layout is only 2', and a lot of it is 18" or 1' wide. ANd you can couple as many extensions together as you need - the 60cm ones would have been too long in 90% of the cases.
I've been using eBay and ordering both computer equipment and model railroad stuff online for about 10 years now and have NEVER had an issue with my personal information being compromised. I rarely use my credit card directly, almost always through PayPal so my actual card is not exposed to the seller.
All Electronics in Van Nuys, California, has servo extensions in lengths from 4 to 36 inches, priced at $2.60 to $4.50 each, and cheaper if you order more than 10.
I buy them in bulk and can get 10 for the price of 1 in a local hobby shop.

But unless you're an electronics hobbyist and purchase more than just servo extensions, shipping charges can be a killer, so you might be better off finding a local hobby shop that specializes in radio control airplanes.
