hello all, i am learning about programming cv's for speed and was wondering when programming your values for voltage is it the higher the value the voltage it will give the engine at that point of it's accell. I know that the factory is set at 00/00 if i want to match a kato dash 8 which starts out slower than the ace i need to raise the value on cv2. If someone can explain a little on how speed matching works that would be great. or give me some good values to start with for matching these engines. ho is my scale also the 70 ace has a kinda silent horn i don't know if theres a way to turn it up or just have to live with it the way it is. help!!!!
Simple terms: At starting/slow speeds, you generally can;t make the faster loco slower, so you need to increase CV2 to speed up the slower one.
At fast speeds, you generally can't speed up the slower one, so use CV5 to slow down the faster one.
If supported by the decoder, us CV6 to adjust the speeds at mid throttle.
They just have to be close, not exactly dead on, and they will pull together in consist.

Yes but the list may be different depending on the decoder you have. Do you know which one it is?

I think that your 70 ACE might have the Tsunami decoder in it.
Try working with CV's 209 and 210. Defaults are about 20. Set CV 209 to 10 CV 210 to 12.
See if that does not slow down the ACE. You might have to play around with this values as each unit is different. BTW make sure you have CV's 2,3 and 4 set to zero first.

Or not worry about it too much, my Stewart FT-A has a TCS DP2 in it, and the B has a Tsunami, and they run together just fine with almost no tweaking. The lack of those CVs still bugs the heck out of me with the Tsunami. Using speed tables is WAY more complicated than it needs to be just to get a pair of locos to run reasonably well together. DecoderPro or not, I prefer 128SS not 28 and tweaking 30CVs is much more work than tweaking 3. Shame on Soundtraxx for not using CV5 and 6.
Plus the primary issue was getting one that starts out too slow to catch up - CV2 is plenty for that..

I use the speed tables in JMRI and it is just as quick as CV2/6/5.
Check the boxes under steps 1, 14 and 28. Now only adjust those three same as you would using 2/6/5 and JMRI automatically changes the rest. I have this sets the speeds close enough to decoders programmed using CV2/6/5.

I have a Kato Dash 9 that I tried speed matching with my Athearn Genesis SD70Ace and at some speeds the Kato is a little faster and then some speeds the Athearn is a little faster.. Get them as close as you can because it will even out once you get some cars hooked and the weight is pulling against them
