Need advice on connecting digitrax PR3
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, February 21, 2011 9:43 PM
I have this question in on the yahoo Digitrax  Group, but they are slow to respond.  I don't think there are nearly as many people online following threads compared to our forums.

Do I need to connect loconet on PR3 just to use soundloader to use on a Soundbug?

Or do I simply need to connect the Soundbug via the programming track terminals? That's what it looks like from the instructions, but thought I would ask first...

You only need to establish the USB connection to the PC and attach the program track.  I use mine completely independent of my layout and Loconet.

For a dedicated program track, you only need USB and the PS14 power supply. You only need a Loconet connection to use the PR3 in 'MS100 mode' to control your system.

You did get several replies. But ignore the part about connecting a motor, the SoundBug programs just fine just clip-leaded to the PR3's track connection. I was bored one day and downloaded every sound project on the Digitrax site and tested them all out on mine. My PR3 is connected to a short section of track all mounted on a pieceof wood, so I just took a pair of clip leads fromt he rails to the power connections on the SoundBug and away it went.

The Digitrax sound and motor combo decoders might ned a motor connected to program properly, but the SOundBug doesn't.
