cacole

CV 8 is not what you use for SoundTraxx decoders to reset them -- try CV 30 = 2...

Charles, the manual says either one is the way to reset the decoder.  I use CV8 all the time.

His first post said his lights and sounds are working, just not the motor.

Nearly all locomotives require a resistor in the headlight lead when installing a decoder.  If you didn't do this, you blew the light circuit part of the decoder but the motor should still run.

Looks like you still have the option of getting a motor decoder to run side by side with the blown 750

Thanks guys for your responses

Talked with the Service Dept at Soundtraxx and was told the 750's are protected by a fuse and if you exceed the 750ma then it's all over. I tried to install them in two Bachmanns. a 2-10-0 Russian Decapod and a Berkshire. Both were not under load when tested and there are no burn marks on the shrink wrap. None the less to have them "reset" at Soundtraxx will cost me $45 each. I bought these some time ago and am not covered under the 90 day warranty.

So what to do... Simple. Never buy 750's again except for the smallest of engines and instead of spending the $90 dollars to repair these I'll spend $25 x 2 to buy 1 amp decoders and run them in parallel with the sound part of the defunct 750's.

My mistake, which I will learn from

Hi Rich

Thanks for the info. I run with Digitrax. I tried to reset with CV 8. As far as the decoder goes the red LED is on and no heat was generated when I fired it up.

I'll be calling Soundtraxx later today

Fergie

There will be no heat now. If you are sure the wiring is correct, it is probably the decoder. Is there a burn spot on the decoder shrink?

I assume only one loco install at this point. Since you were able to program the decoder, that would tell me the motor is OK as a open motor, you usually cannot program the decoder. The decoder requires the motor load.

Did you put a voltmeter on the orange and gray wires and look for a DC voltage as the throttle is increased.

Could the gear drive be locked up?

The 750's are wrapped in heat shrink. I have some of the 750's.

Put the loco on the program track and do a reset. Follow the manual in your DCC controller and look at the decoder manual.

Has the 750 run at all? What brand of DCC controller?

You did not give much info.

Make sure there is only a orange wire and gray wire connected to the motor.

Be advised, 750's are known to be heat sensitive. Happened to me. I believe there is a fuse on the decoder board and SoundTraxx has to do the repair.

All my 750's powered up and ran on the default 3 address right from the start. Nothing special to do.

I use the NCE Power Cab.

Just checked the manual and there's no start-up function like in Atlas.

Are the motor wires connected or are you reading for voltage dis-connected?

Is the motor isolated from the frame?

I see the 750 doens't have any insulation. Make sure nothing metal is touching the circuit board such as wire clippings.

I'll have to look it up but is there a start up function?

I am in the process of installing a batch of Soundtraxx Micro-Tsunami TSU 750. I've installed plenty of 1000's but this is my 1st go at the 750's.

The problem: I have lights, I have all the Bells, whistles and chuffs but I've got no power coming from the grey/orange wires which means the engines are not going.

Does anyone know what the issue is.
