Another unusual solution to add to the question list when someone has a problem.

Thanks for the response - turns out the reed switch cracked when I pulled the chip (its the two wires that are encased in a glass tube). When this breaks, it shorts and accessing the engine becomes hit or miss. I was able to program CVs but the engine would immediately reset itself, which was pretty comical.
The solution is to clip at least 1 lead of the reed switch - it renders the QSI wand worthless however I have DecoderPro so it didn't matter to me....
You could pull the chip again and see if all the pins are aligned in the socket.
Just be sure to stick the chip corner notch in the right corner when reinserting it

I'm not sure about which QSI decoder Atlas is using, but BLI has their own version in their Paragon 2 models that is not from QSI.

I purchased an Atlas D9-40C engine a number of months ago and finally got around to upgrading the QSI chip. I pulled the stock chip and replaced it with the upgraded chip. When I went to program the chip, QSI programmer didn't recognize that an engine was on the track - nor did the layout or decoderPro. I put the original chip back in and similar results so it looks like something happened to the board. All contacts are solid, firm. I "played" with the board and was able to get the QSI programmer to recognize the chip so I upgraded the sound file and useed DecoderPro to change the address. Whats interesting is when I put the train on my layout, it shows intermittant shorts and will not hold the address - engine stated "MAX" numerous times and "RESET." figuring there is a short somewhere I wrote an email to QSI to see if they would send me a replacement Quantum board...
What I am wondering is are the new Atlas or BLI with sound releases shipping with Revolution boards or Quantum boards?
