I am the guy who has been trying without success to get my Walthers H10-44, with QSI decoder, to start at a lower speed than 2 SMPH (with a "jump"). I really don't have a great deal of money for my hobby but after weeks of CV adjustments, I decided to "bite the bullet" and ordered a LokSound 3.5 decoder to replace the QSI. The engine profile allowed some space for the decoder and a rectangular 100 ohn speaker under the hood (the speaker in the fuel tank was prone to picking up anything metallic and needed to be cleaned of debri often). The rectanguler speaker has surprisingly good sound.
The install went pretty well, including replacing the LED's with different ones (I needed to install 1000 ohm resistors for each LED). I was not thrilled at the prospect of removing the QSI but the results are gratifying. Yes, the low speed is now under 1 SMPH, the engine creeps to a start, the engine sound (I downloaded a 16 cylinder FM file) is very good and the great flexibility of sounds in LokSound decoders allowed me to load sounds for compressor, ventilator, brake release, air let-off, uncouple air sound, sand, etc. The horn is a single Wabco rather than the multi-chime that came on the QSI. The maiden run is tomorrow and I am sure there will be many CV adjustments to come but I am very pleased with the outcome, especially the low speed capability.
Strangely, the only other engines of mine that have QSI decoders run very well at slow speed. So, the count now for my roster is QSI --two decoders; LokSound (ESU)--five.

I love the QSI in many ways, but I can't say they compare favourably to the LokSounds with respect to slow motion. Maybe we can expect better over time. They did a good job on improving their sounds and the range of them back in 2005/06, so maybe they are working on their drives.

I have a "Q2" decoder in my new Atlas HH600/660 and that baby craaaaawls at speed step 001. They even rival and surpass the low-speed response of my Loksound 3.5 decoders. (I'm guessing in the order of 0.5 sMPH or <?)
I like the low-speed response on these decoders so much that, if can can successfully transfer the sound files, I'll swap out the older QSI decoders in my BLI Mike and Mohawk for the newer QSI decoders.

Yep, Crandall, I have a HH600 as well. You are absolutely correct! I love the slow speed response of this QSI. My BLI SW-7 with updated QSI decoder does fairly well also. I wonder if the Walthers SW1200 will run as well as the HH600.
