The expense of the system isn't an issue. I have locos I programmed with my EZ-Command years ago and they run just fine with my Digitrax Zephyr. I saw no reason to change their addresses so I never have. They're still set to the same addresses I programmed into them with the EZ-Command. A loco programmed on your layout with it's EZ Command will run just fine on the other EZ-Command layout with no problem or any other layout with ANY NMRA compatible DCC system with no changes.

Thanks Jeffrey.

That's what I thought AFTER I put up this Q AND AFTER I put up the last response.

Oh, well, we say here that there are no "dumb questions" but I just asked one.

Thanks Randy.

It also occured to me that the loco may hold the address AFTER I put this up. LIke just now.

I also know there are guys who have DCC locos they take to clubs to run and can run on the two controllers. But they generally have more expensive systems.

 If you program a loco on button 1 of one EZ, and move it to the other layout, it should work on button 1 of the second unit without reprogramming. When you assign a loco to one of the 9 buttons on the EZ, it actually sets the DCC address to 1-9, so moving between two independent systems should work just fine.  If ore than one loco is set to the same button, they will both move at the same time.

2 EZ COmmands work together or compete?

I have one Bachmann EZ Command DCC unit for my layout and have purchased a second one for the simple oval under the table top tree layout.

DOes anyone know if I program, say a christmas gift loco in to what is a vacant spot on my regualr layout as well, can I switch the loco{s} between each controller or have I got to reprogram each loco for each time for each controller?

In other words, can I program a loco that will work on the same spot on both controllers or do I have to reset, reprogram for each controller for each loco?

Or do I have to get TWO of a more expensive DCC system to do that?

{does this question make sense? ANd I don't want to disconnect the 1st EZCommand from my layout every Christmas and connect it to the tree layout just to run trains, so I bought the second controller. WIth good old DC I could have two controlers at each layout and it wouldn't matter which on i was a loco on it would respond But "we don't like DC"}
