Dave,

Tony's Train Exchange had some info on reconfiguring functions on tsunamis, change CV30=0 (default) to CV30=4 this will make function changes.

F0=headlight on/off

F1=bell

F2=long horn

F3=short horn

F4=dynamic brakes

F5=radiator fans

F6=air compressor

F7=braking/squeal/release

F8=coupler clank

F9=old F5 function

F10=old F6 function

F12=mute

Remember too that with the Tsunami, each sound has it's own volume CV. If the CV's are set too low, you might not hear some of them. Also note that not all companies use the same function buttons. 0=Lights, 1=Bell, 2=Whistle are pretty standard, the rest can be very different. F3 might be the coupler on one decoder, F12 might be the coupler on another.

Sounds like you have not gone to the SoundTraxx documents page. I can point you to them but you really have to read them yourself.

Some of the sounds are above 12. Your controller has to be able to address function numbers up to 28 to work on them all.

Hi,

Thank you to everyone who has responded to my post, it's much appreciated. Reading them it looks like I nearly started a warBig Smile I am relatively new to DCC and am not familiar with setting up CV's. I have an MRC Prodigy Advance DCC controller

To provide more info as some requested; both decoders were purchased separately and installed in loco's. I'll go with the first only so as not to cloud the water as they say. It's a "Tsunami TSU-AT1000", model 828048 EMD 645 Non-turbo. What I was trying to ask is how do I reset the decoder to the factory settings which I assume will have all sounds active.

I believe this can be done by resseting CV8 to a value of 8. I know how to get into the CV programming on the "Prodigy" but when I go there it looks like it's lookinh for a four digit number to select the CV and the same for the actual setting. Do I require to enter 4 digits? That is 0008 for 8 or is 8 on its own sufficient? I don't want to completely screw up the decoder's settings. Stick out tongue

 richg1998:

The Bachmann with factory Tsunami do not have all sounds. SoundTraxx has the documents for the Bachmann sounds.

To which sounds are you referring Rich?  They have all the same sound as the dedicated micro Tsunami as far as I can tell.

Be specific. The standard Tsunami and Micro Tsunami that are shrink wrapped and you install yourself have the same sounds. The Micro has a few less lighting functions than the standard.

The Bachmann and Athearn factory installed Tsunami have a few less sounds than the shrink wrapped Tsunami from all that I have read so far. Those factory installed decoders are a different type of decoder that you cannot buy separately.

Go to each site and download all the documents and do some reading.

Some people make assumptions that anything that says SoundTraxx Tsunami have all the same sounds and capabilities which muddies the water. Ahtearn and Bachmann are not cheating you out of stuff. They tell you in their documents what sounds the decoder have.

SoundTraxx may change this in the future but it depends on what Athearn and Bachmann want.

I install all my own Tsunami decoders so it is not an issue for me.

Yes, it is generally less cost if you buy your loco with Tsunami sound depending on how good a shopper your are.

To my knowledge, there is no Micro for factroy installed Tsunami.

You really need to provide more information.

The Athearn with factory sound do not have all sounds. Athearn has the decoder documents for their locos.

The Bachmann with factory Tsunami do not have all sounds. SoundTraxx has the documents for the Bachmann sounds.

The Tsunami individuals install, all have more sounds than factory installed decoders.

Please be specific in your questions.

If this was previously owned, I would reset the decoder back to defaults. The functions may have been programmed differently then the manual says.

Were these previously owned, or are they new?  What decoder do you have?  Is the decoder a full featured decoder, or one that might have come as original to the model?

The coupler sound is F12 as per page 5 of: http://www.soundtraxx.com/manuals/Users%20Guide%20Diesel.pdf.  The other available user activated functions are also listed on this page.

The function output control CVs start about page 32 of: http://www.soundtraxx.com/manuals/Tsunami%20Diesel%20Technical%20Reference_1.13.pdf.  I believe that the default values for each of the different CVs is shown on the bottom of each page.

Hi

I have two loco's, bought recently, fitted with Tsunami sound decoders. The sound is working OK but only for a few of the functions these decoders should provide. I have the engine sounds, horn, short horn, lights and bell are all functioning correctly, but I have none of the others, coupler etc.. Is there a default setting that activates all the rest? I have been through the Tsunami manual but it doesn't give any mention of having to activate these other sounds. All my other sound equipped loco's, Atlas Gold, BLI, all came with all the sounds fully working straight out the box. I'm kind of new to the DCC thing and haven't got my head round the CV setting up thing yet either, so any help would be appreciated.
