One of the possibilities noted in the forums is the fact that Atlas placed two 50uf caps wired in series across the motor leads. Many are suggesting to cut these out. Mine are cut out and the loco runs smoothe as a baby's bottom.

It almost has to be anyway, since none of the other locos done by Atlas or anyone else have reported frying on the Tech 6.

Agree selector. sounds like MRC is punting, saying Atlas has a problem. If their tests are valid, they could be right.
Frank Verrico ... Since this problem has developed, we have initiated additional testing. Our testing has uncovered similar problems with the Genset when used with other well known brands *of train control systems. I thank you for your continued support and patronage. Frank Ritota President

Asterisk and underlining are mine. Seems they feel the problem might be resident in the Genset.
Thanks for the update and the new information.
Can we get more technical here? What is the problem that has been observed, and what are the circumstances under which it shows up? I'm assuming it's a feature specific to the MRC supply which triggered the original problem that was reported.
By the way, I run DCC, and the Genset is completely out of my era, so my interest is purely for the sake of the engineering involved. But, I'm a lifelong geek, with a slide rule in my desk drawer to prove it, so please, give us all the tech-talk and analyzer images you've got.

To our valued customers
We have been informed that there may be some issues with the new Atlas Genset locomotives when used with our MRC Tech 6 Sound Controller 2.0.
At MRC, We take claims very seriously. Every MRC product goes through thorough and exhaustive testing; conducted both in-house and by 3rd parties. We do this to ensure our products meet the highest quality standards, and are free of defects in design, workmanship, and operation before the product goes to market. The Tech 6 is certainly no exception.
This product which has been in the marketplace for almost a year, has been lauded for its unique capabilities, operational effectiveness, and flawless performance. To date, we have not received any complaints or notifications of any issues concerning operation with any manufacturers’ locomotives, with the exception of the new, recently released Atlas H.O. scale Genset Locomotive.
Since this problem has developed, we have initiated additional testing. Our testing has uncovered similar problems with the Genset when used with other well known brands of train control systems.
I thank you for your continued support and patronage.
