I have been buying a bunch of the Walthers UP Streamliner passenger cars in HO scale. On some cars I have spent the extra and put in the Walthers lightings kits. I am thinking of changing to DCC in 2011 - will my light kits still work? Will they damage the DCC? Sorry, but I'm a better model builder than electrician, so I needed to ask. Thanks in advance.
They should be fine. I have some "DC" lighting kits in some of my passenger cars, and they work.
They may not be the most efficient lighting systems, though. If you've got sidings with kill switches on your DC layout, keep them. That way you can keep the cars on the layout and just power them down when they're not in use.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
You can even give each car a decoder
But only if you have the money. .
It's a good idea to have with DCC tracks where you can shut off power! I have them at my engine facility.

Oh snap! That's how you shut off passenger lights? Hmm, I need to do that, but I don't have enough room on my layout with a free siding. Need to think about how to solve this. I do have my extension room build that I will be starting soon, I might have to squeeze in another track near my staging area.
Thanks for the ideas!
