No electrical switch is necessary unless you are running more than one train in a block  type system.

I'll try that, and when I do should this section be insulated from the main line? With a A-B switch?

If you throw a switch reverse and the mainline loses power the switch is probably of the power routing type. You should maybe add some more track feeders around the main on both sides of the switch.

It sounds like you have a reverse loop.  Can you post a diagram?

Using Bachmann EZ Track turnouts. Question is are they "all live" or "power-routing" ? Wiring ? DC small N scale layout. When I throw switch the main line shuts down. ?? This is probably simple based on the posts I see here. Any help appreciated.
