Sound decoders for N scale Diesels?
Posted by SleeperN06 on Monday, August 2, 2010 6:44 PM

I just ordered an Athearn EMD F45 Santa Fe with Tsunami Sound on line yesterday. I’m not sure how happy I’m going to be with it because of the limited Loco selection. I know I’m going to love the sound, but I really wish it were a UP Flag or a BNSF Swoosh, my two favorites.

I’ve been looking for information on how to add Tsunami sound to others Locos like the SD70 or AC4400CW, but can’t find anything on it. I did see a few Kato SD70MACs with MRC sound on YouTube that sound acceptable. I know the sound quality is not that good on YouTube so I don’t know exactly how it is and I’m giving it the benefit of doubt.

So my question is how hard is it to add sound to say a Kato SD70MAC or AC4400CW and what is available for N-scale diesels?

I’ve also read about others that are not happy with the MRC sound decoders, but as someone said its better than nothing. Cool

Thanks, JohnnyB

I would go with the SoundTraxx Micro Tsunami. Send an email to Litchfield Station and ask. Very good prices also.

The Micro Tsunami is a N scale decoder. I do not run N scale but very happy with the decoder. Only two lighting options though.

Thanks I just took a peak and wow that cost almost as much as I paid for the Athearn F45 and it looks like I still need a speaker.

I’m going to read the manual and check it out.

Yes, pricey. $112 but Litchfield Station has free shipping over $75. I get all my DCC stuff from them.
