Since the red tail lights come on when the train is going forward, just wire them in parallell to the front headlight.  They will then both come on at the same time.  Or if you want independent control of them, use a decoder with extra function outputs and wire them to them.

DCC Light Wiring
Posted by alloboard on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 11:05 PM

The HO Bachmann Acela trainset locomotives and the HHP-8 were wired that when it runs forward the white light comes up front and the tail light lights up at the back. Now using DCC with a Digitrax DH165A0 decoder, how will I wire the lights for automatic direction control? I am upgrading the lighting system by removing the lens and adding each and every light independently without those silly lens that duplicates the ditch lights. I already know that the FOF,FOF+ and FOR+,FOR should be for the white lights for the HHP-8 locomotive. Remember that the HHP-8 has bi directional white and red lights. I'm also putting lights into the Spectrum F40PH. Now the challenge is what method should I use to wire the tail (red) lights? Can you later program the independant light fuctions for automatic direction control by programming configuration variables?
