Replicating Interior Lighting
Posted by alloboard on Sunday, June 27, 2010 10:42 PM

How can one replicate realistic looking commuter or passenger car interior roof lighting using LED's? What parts do you need for the retangular shaped bulb retainers and metal clips. I've included this picture to describe this better. http://en.academic.ru/pictures/enwiki/80/Port_Jervis_Line_interior.jpg

I haven't seen anything like that but Fiber optics might work.  Also consider who would actually see them?

For the second photo you linked, you could try surface mount LEDs.

I used some on my Hi-Level coach for lighting.  However it is a heck of a lot of tedious soldering work and I still have only done one of the coaches on my El Cap trainset:

But you can get some on eBay pretty cheap (try this link).  I like the super bright white ones.  They give off a nice amount of light, and a slight blue tint.  Although I had to also use some blue tinting on the windows to get the right color for Santa Fe Hi-Level windows.
