I'm adding interior cab lights to my HO locomotives. Where can one find LED's that look like Incandescent bulbs with dim diffused lighting?
warm white christmas tree lights - they use an inverted cone style LED that gives diffused light. Experiment with resistors over 1K and a 12V DC power source. The larger the resistor, the lower the current and the dimmer the LED will be, however there is a certain low value below which the LED will not turn on. This will take some experimentation to find what looks good.

Buy Yellow Glow or Gold LED's they are an incandescent colour.
Standard (3mm) LEDs are going to look way too large for a cab interior ! If you are any good at some fine soldering, you really need to go with some surface mount LEDs. Do a search on "that auction site" for "SMT warm white LED".
Yes, most of the sellers are from Hong Kong, but they are dirt cheap, so it's no biggie if you damage a few in the learning process. A strip of 100 of these LEDs usually runs about $20.
I've personally bought from these sources numerous times and have had nothing but excellent service and products. The warm white SMT's look great and be put in places no other light source can.
