LED's For Signals
Posted by alloboard on Friday, June 25, 2010 12:44 PM

What size LED voltage rating and brightness (mcd) should I use for HO scale signals like TexNrails' PRR position light signals without LED's?

First thing - You will need to know what size the holes are in the signal.  LED's come in many sizes.  The voltage/amp rating can vary, but this is typical:  2-3 volts/20-25 ma current ratings.  Most of the manufacturers list the MCD rating in thrir catalogs.  Check out the Digikey and Mouser web site for their on-line catalogs.  You might want to send an email to TexNrails and ask what they suggest for LED's.

Do you have the signals already?  If not it might be a better idea to get signals with the LED's installed and save yourself a lot of headache.  There are several good manufacturers.  I think mine are by Tomar.
