Soundtraxx Decoder CVs
Posted by joe1965 on Sunday, June 20, 2010 9:46 AM
I have a few Tsunami Soundtraxx AT1000 decoders in some of my Athearn and blue box locomotives. Which CVs do you set to get the locomotives to move slower at speed step 1. Currently the locomotives at speed step 1 (128) start at about 5mph scale speed. A little to fast.

CV 2 controls start voltage.  Set it to a lower value to get the locomotive to start more slowly, or a higher value if the engine doesn't move at speed step 1.

If CV 2 is already zero, try setting it to 1.  Zero is sometimes used for a "default" value, and may actually be higher than 1.  If that doesn't work, try increasing the value of CV 3.  This is "acceleration momentum"  It will cause the locomotive to start more slowly, and gradually build up speed.  It still won't help the steady-state speed at step 1, but at least you won't get a rubber-burning, pop-the-clutch jackrabbit start.

Go to page 47 of this manual.  It shows how to set up for smooth low speed operation. There are 4 additional CV's involved. http://www.soundtraxx.com/manuals/Users%20Guide%20Diesel.pdf

What CV and value is used to reset the Tsunami Soundtraxx decoder to the factory default settings?

Set CV 8 to 8  or CV30 to 2

Someone already answered but if all else fails, follow the instruction manual. The manuals are at the SoundTraxx site.

Currently the locomotives at speed step 1 (128) start at about 5mph scale speed. A little to fast.

before adjusting CV2,3 and 4, go to CV212 (motor intensity) and try adjusting between 75-134 -its trial and error depending on what motor it is...if you're dissatisfied with those settings just reset @8 to 8 and 30 to 2. Then adjust CV2 to no more than 3 and CV3 to 2 or 3 until you acheive the desired effect... this should give you a slight 'delay' while the engine sounds rev and a very smooth start at about 3-5smph.

Frankly, there's no 'set' settings that are perfect as each motor characteristic is going to be different even from the same manufacturer.
