Anyone using CVP zonemaster booster on a non CVP layout?
Posted by locoi1sa on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 10:15 PM

  Hi guys.

The club is making the switch to DCC on the permanent HO layout. We have been using Lenz DCC on the portable modules for years. We already have a command station and 1 booster allocated and need 3 more boosters. I have been researching boosters and reverse's. The CVP zone master dual has a built in auto reverse in it. Do they work well with Lenz systems and are they reliable?  CVP makes a quality product. We have the wireless throttles for Lenz on our modular layout that works really good. I am just not sure of the boosters.

     Thanks.

BTW  Happy dads day for all you dads out there.

Well, I can't say how they work with the Lenz system...but my Zone Master Dual works great with my CVP command station.  The auto-reverse is very quick.  Just remember the total output is 7 amps...not 7 amps for each circuit.

There was just a posting about this on the Model Railroad Hobbyist forums. The poster had problems using the ZoneMasters with an NCE system when the trains crossed from a section powered by the NCE booster to one powered by a ZoneMaster. It worked fine if all districts were powered by ZoneMasters with the NCE functioning as command station only. It would seem the lack of a proper common ground reference between the ZoneMaster and the NCE is the culprit. Maybe there will be this problem with Lenz, maybe not.

   Thank you guys.

Randy I have heard about the grounding issue on another forum with a digitrax system and zonemaster.

I really want to know if they will work reliably. The other issue I have with them is the power supply has to come from CVP. The 7 amps total output should be plenty for our yard district.
