Not every decoder resets with CV30=2. Some are CV8=8, and there are some other options. It also sounds liek this recovery mode does a little more than just reset the decoders, since it mentions setting some CVs to 'usable' values - whatever that means. Factory defaults are perfectly 'usable' - you can controlt eh loco, and at least operate the headlights. Maybe your ditchlights won't flash, but the whole idea of doing a factory reset is to get all CVs into a known state. This is a good thing to do on every fresh decoder install BEFORE you attempt to program it.

What's the difference between all of this stuff and setting the value of CV30 to 2 ?

RECOVERY PROGRAMMING (Option 7)
The programming section is included to allow the user to set all registers of the Decoder
to the values that were programmed into it at the factory.
RECOVERY
PROGRAM 1=YES
RECOVERY PROGRAM
Press 1 to enter Recovery mode. This will reprogram NCE decoders (and most others) to
their original factory values. But will set addresses, motor control CVs and Function
Mapping CVs to a useful state so that you can get control of a decoder.
As each CV is programmed the CV number is displayed.

It's not the CV8=8. There is a mode where you can access to make it try all of the known reset values.

It is right in the NCE manual. If all else fails, follow instructions. It is called reseting a decoder to factory specs. CV8, enter 8.

NCE recovering program?

NCE DCC controllers has a "recovery program", just to recover "insane" decoders. Anybody knows how it works, and the difference than just to "reset" the decoder?. Thanks.
