Need help with MTH SD70ACE
Posted by my85grandnation on Saturday, April 24, 2010 6:34 PM

I was trying to set my SD70Ace up today for the cab address on my clubs NCE Pro Cab system and I accidently entered in the wrong value for cv 29 which sets the long address. Anyways did the factory reset and got it programed to cab number. Moved forward a little bit and didnt realize the person that just ran accross my track forgot to change their switch back so it shorted me out. I threw the switch and corrected the short and nothing. All of a sudden another person moved their engine and mine moved with it so somehow my MTH programed to their Broadway Limited cab number. I tried to reset the engine to long address and it took but as soon as it was removed from power and put back on it reverted back to the other guys cab number. Did factory reset and engine went back to loco 3, reprogramed long address and engine worked fine as long address. Removed from power later and next time it went back on it reverted back to the other guys number again. I have tried numerous resets, trying to adjust the cab cv's leaving it on the power for a while after resets as well as taking it right off and still it goes back to the other guys engine number when its removed from power. Any thoughts? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Dusty

I would just call MTH support, they are pretty good.

Do you have a layout at home?  Try it there and see what happens.  Sounds like a bug in the decoder.  Also try setting to a different address and see if it changes anything.

I have 2 and changed them to Tsunami's. Should have them around if MTH gives you a hard time.

Thanks guys,

I dont have a home layout but a friend works for a shop that has a DCS test track so Im gonna have him try a reset on the MTH system and see if that takes care of it. Its the wierdest thing all the functions and everything works it just wont come off that other engines number. I did finally get it to where I could lock it into default address 3 and retain that when the power is removed, but if you do a reset from there or try and change the cab address it goes right back to the other engines number. It seems like MTH's boards are real nit picky as one of my other Aces had the sound board go out in it. They took care of that one no questions asked so if we cant straighten this one out Im sure I can send it in.
