Problem resolved with quick and friendly customer service from MRC. Mostly my fault for mis-remembering some pretty clear directions. Good folks to deal with.
They were pretty low when I first discovered the problem, but have since been recharged. Still no link light, so no programing. I've emailed MRC this evening so I'll see what response comes tomorrow (I hope.)
I'll update when I hear something if anyone cares. Actually, I'll update anyway!

How are the batteries on the wireless controller?
People tend to forget about them with all brands. When batteries get low weird things can happen.

My MRC Wireless DCC Controller is working fine in the operating mode, but suddenly the 'link' light is off so that programing on the program track is not functioning. I've checked wire connection and all seem to be tight-- no link light flicker when wires are moved. I've also checked and the handheld is properly set at cab 1. I find nothing in the manual that discusses trouble-shooting this kind of problem.
Anybody got any suggestions before I call customer service tomorrow?
