Kato motor brush assembly.
Posted by ds137 on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 9:58 AM

I have aquired a couple of older Atlas SD35 chassies built with Kato can motors. I am looking for the brush/spring/cap assembly that snaps on the motor body.  Kato and Atlas are both out of stock with no restock available.  Atlas part number 707101.  Anyone have a lead on these or a suitable replacement?  I need 3 pair and would like to have a 4th pair just in case.  Thanks in advance!

Earl

Is this HO or N? If it's HO, and you find a source, let me know. I have one where a spring is missing.

OK, it appears no one has a source for these things.  Let's think outside the box- since brushes are basically graphite, the same things as pencil lead........ I wonder if anyone has had experience using a pencil lead for brushes?  I imagine I can find a source somewhere for a suitable spring and fashion a cap out of sheet Brass or Phosphor Bronze.... going to put my tinkering cap on... any thoughts?
