Hi Brian, Never did find out why athearn loco's with the mrc decoders do not work propoerly with the bachmann dynamis system. Nobody seemed to have an answer, so sorry cannot help you at the moment. If I do find an answer will let you know.

I have the same problem with a the athearn a/b units factory sound. MRC decoders it seems. works find with dc and the remote, limited functions at f11 and above. f18 activates bell rate change but no exit, the horn select seems to work, coupler clash, light effect does not work on base. any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Brian

Yes, more than likely is me, but no one at the bachmann forum has come up with an answer, no replies at all. I believe the other person with dynamis probems has had the hand set replaced by bachmann, but his problem was I understand the hand set failed to communicate with the base station, nothing at all worked.

There are two people in the Bachmann forums with this issue. One of those might be you. Don't know.

One of them has been in contact with Bachmann repair.

Thanks Rich, the manual says the loco has an mrc decoder. I have posted the problem on the bachmann forum but as yet no response. Will try the yahoo mrc-dcc and see what happens there. Thanks again.

No idea but if no solution found here, you can try the Bachmann forums or the Yahoo SoundTraxx forums. I believe the Athearn locos have the SoundTraxx Tsunami technology. There may be a possibility the loco has the older MRC decoder. Just a guess. Check the documentation that came with the loco.

Below are three links that might help depending on what decoder your loco has.

Athearn Sound problems using dynamis
Posted by David25 on Saturday, February 20, 2010 12:23 AM

I have an athearn genesis diesel loco with dcc and sound that runs and gives the diesel rumble on a bachmann dynamis controller but cannot get the function buttons to work ie: horn, bell etc but it all works fine on an E-Z command controller. Another brand loco works perfectly on both. Anyone have any idea how to solve this problem.
