You should call NCE. They are very helpful over the phone.
Elmer.
The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.
(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.
Either of three things: 1. The battery is dead. 2. You forgot to replace the jumper after installing a new battery. 3. The battery was installed upside down.
My first guess is that the battery is dead and needs to be replaced. It's a commonly available coin cell.
Batt is in correctly putting out 3.22v jumper is in place
Do you have the battery jumper installed in the right position?
My neighbor was having a lot of problems with his system. Went over to try to help him out, but we weren't getting anywhere. After a couple calls to NCE, we just about at the point of sending the command station back to get looked at. Then I found a section of the manual that described how to reset the command station to factory settings. So with nothing to lose, we gave that a try. It worked. Note that the instructions state that if you leave the jumper off the command station will lose its memory when turned off. The instructions from the manual if you want to try this are:
BATTERY
A battery back-up is provided to allow the Power Pro to remember Cab assignments,
2032 3 VOLT LITHIUM
circuitry if you replace it with the power on. We put a scrap of notepaper over the lower
circuit board(s) to prevent shorts if we accidentally drop the battery while changing it.
BATTERY CONNECT JUMPER
With the jumper installed the battery is on. Should the operator want to reset the
Command Station to “FACTORY SETTINGS” remove the jumper, cycle the power to the
Command Station OFF, then ON. All changes have now been cleared. Now re-install the
jumper. If you leave the jumper off the command station will not remember any of its
settings after you turn the power off.
checking voltage with batt installed shows 3.22v after removing batt and checking voltage it is only 2.8 volt so i now think this is problem i will replace batt. Must be capacitor or some component on board holding some voltage i was reading with batt installed. thanks for the help
