Graffen, good for you!  You solved your problem and can derive a lot of satisfaction from doing it.  Big Smile  The best part is that you are now enjoying your fine locomotive.

I fixed it!!!! It was a motor problem of sorts. I disassembled the loco to pieces and started to search for something that could have caused it. As it were, I had a slight "gear-noise" in it when it ran. I therefore tried to run the motor and gears separately, the result; Nothing!!

Then I saw that one of the motor cables looked a bit trashy, so I tried to power the motor on the tabs, and then it worked! It seems that the busted cable had been  caught in the gears and shorted. After a new cable was attached and the loco assembled again, it ran just fine, and a lot quieter as well.

Thanks for the help. I know it wasn´t a decoder error, but as it happened during programming, it made me think that I had released the "magic smoke" out of it. I´m glad it is working now.

I have now tried all the different suggestions to no success, I have a question; The firebox light, isn´t that connected to the motor? It lights when I apply some throttle, and if it is connected to the motor, is it the motor thats faulty?

I'm sure the decoder is fine.  The issue you're having sounds familiar.  I had the 3 truck shay with sound and I recall having the same problem. Trying to remember what the solution was.

It was resetted to adress 3, the sounds and lights works as it should, it isn´t moving. When I run the throttle the sounds follow but no motion. If it was locked it wouldn´t have resetted, right?

I don´t know how to solve this. Should a decoder break because you read the CV´s through the interface with Trainprogrammer?

What address are you using? You might have to reset everything and use address 3 if you have not already. If that works than use the normal procedure for changing the address to the one you want to use. With my DCC system I have to enter 3 and not 003.

Also when setting CV30 to 2, cycle power to the loco before trying again

check the section about decoder lock, I think CV15 and 16 and make sure it isn't locked.

Yes, I have all the manuals for theTsunami, but nowhere can I find what has happened. Obviously there is some CV value that needs to be changed, I wonder why it couldn´t be resetted to the functional state.

Tsunami sound but no motion ¤NOW FIXED!!¤
Posted by Graffen on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 12:12 PM

Hi all, I have a little problem. I was going to change the adress of my Shay equipped with a Tsunami decoder. As I was doing that I thought that i do a backup of the CV´s as well. When I had done that, it wont move! All sounds are working and all. I tried a reset (CV 8 to 8 and CV 30 to 2) No success.

Whats up? Can I do something to make it move again?
