Some critical informatioin is still missing, such as:

What DCC system do you have?

Have you ever ran other locomotives that are DCC equipped?

Have you tried running the new decoders on address 03?

All decoder come from the factory set to a default address of 3.  If you don't tell your DCC system to run that address, nothing will happen.

The decoders were Digitrax DH 163 P.

Ed,

You need the DH163L0 decoder for a Proto 2000 locomotive.  There is also a lighting issue that needs to be addressed when using these decoders with the Proto 2000 GP38-2s:

The decoders were Digitrax DH 163 P.  I followed the instructions that came with the model and decoder, removing the circuit board from the PROTO  2000 chassis and plugging in the decoder.  Nothing worked; no lights, no hum from the motor, anything.  I removed the decoder, reconfigured the the loco for DC operation and it runs fine.  I have tried two decoders and have same problem with each.  I find it inconceivable that I have two bad decoders.

 Thanks, Ed

Ed Whichard

I just purchased a PROTO 2000 GP-38 diesel loco.  It was DCC ready and runs well in the out of the box DC configuration.  I have tried two different Digitrax DH 163 decoder and neither will work. Any suggestions?

 Ed

What specifically didn't work ?  Please tell us a little more about what you did and what the results were.
