Best software for DCC and Windows

Hi,

What would you folks consider to be the best software to run on Windows to control a DCC layout?   In both a commercial version and freeware?

I  have an area in the basement of about a 270 square feet of L shaped area to work with at present - 24' x 13.5', with the stairwell.

  For 'freebie' stuff, JMRI 'Panel Pro' is good, but you have to do most of the programming.  For commercial stuff, RR&Co (??) is available, but the cost is high.  Using any of the above software is only part of the complete control scheme.  You will need to invest in detectors, transponders and drivers for to communicate with the software.

 Thanks much jrbemier.  For all the electronics, who would you reccomend as a dealer?  I'm sure this is a specialty type of product that most LHS don't carry?

Since most of the electronics you'll need fall under the heading of DCC peripherals, you'll need to find yourself a good DCC dealer.  Everyone has their favorite, mine is Accu-lites.

Also, research the DCC requirements for what you intend to do, and then research which DCC system meets those requirements.  For example, you are looking at DCC software.  Well, there is one brand of DCC system that won't talk to anyone's software but their own, and if it doesn't meet all your needs, you'll be stuck.

 I also responded in the Linux thread...In Windows, my favorite was Winlok...it's no longer supported, but it can be found out there with a quick search...
