THANKS GUYS. I WILL GO WITH THE 230 MA BATTERY. MOST LIKELY WILL GET TWO BATTS. THANKS AGAIN. BAYOUMAN
Spend the money for a Powerx 9v charger and Powerex 9.6v batteries. I got one (four unit charger) from Santa. Fast recharge and the 9.6v batteries last along time. I left one in my UT4D and it was still good two days later. Also a DT402D will consume more power with the back light.

Also, don't constantly twiddle the speed knob. Your loco isn't going to stop if you don't constantly move the knob. This will help the battery last a lot longer, because every time you nudge the knob even one click, it has to turn on the radio and transmit.

Powerex 9.6 volt rechargeable batteries seem to be the battery of choice on the Digitrax Yahoo group. You'll need to purchase their charger as well.
GOOD MORNING, I'M A HAPPY OWNER OF A DIGITRAX DT402D, WELL, NOT COMPLELY HAPPY. MAN, THIS HANDHELD UNIT USES 9V BATTERYS UP FAST ( AT THREE BUCKS PLUS APIECE ITS A LITTLE MUCH ). SO TO GO TO RECHARGEABLE. NOT CHEEP ORIGNALY,BUT SHOULD PAY IN THE LONG RUN. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHAT MAh 9V RECHARGE BATTERY I NEED. WHAT DO I NEED FOR AN OPERATIONING SESSION SIX TO EIGHT HOURS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE MA DRAW DOES THE DT402D DRAW ( REMENBER IT TALKS BACK ). DAVE AT DIGITRAX SAYS HE DON'T KNOW OR DON'T WANT TO TELL. THANK YOU BAYOUMAN.
