Bachman GE 44ton Decoder Address
Posted by harrym on Sunday, January 10, 2010 8:41 PM

I have two of these critters and have been unable to change the decoder address from 3 to14. Has anyone had any success with this simple action ?

No problem at all with my 44 ton and 70 ton. I use the NCE Power Cab. Yo did not give much information about your issue.

Hi Rich

I am using the MRC Prodigy Advance  Wireless. The locos ran ok on Address 3 as they are suposed to but would not accept any attempt to change the address to any other number. tried on the main programming and programming track approaches with no success. Programmed  another loco at the same time  and it worked just fine . I should mention, these are the Bachman DCC Aboard models. Any ideas?

Hi Harry I see David answered your question. I do not use or are am I familiar with the MRC system.

If you ever get real ambitious, you can rip out the decoder and install a LokSound Micro with a 16mm X 25 mm speaker and baffle. Sounds great and I have configured the decoder to run between 1 mph and 25 mph. These switchers usually had a maximum speed of about 20 mph.

Union Freight sometimes ran these in pairs as their 15 to 20 freights were to much for one loco. UFRR ordered them with a MU connector on the end of each hood and two MU air hoses on each end of the frame.

I also have a two motor 44 ton with a Digitrax DZ125 decoder in it.

Hi David

I thought programming  an address was simple as have  done it 50 or 60 times, just enter a nunber in the address part of the programming sequence. So I don"t really have a feel for the CV 1 route. I entered the loco number, 3, and then enter and then proceedeed throught the steps to CV. Entered  1 then enter then 14 then enter My loco would not respond, still reacting to 3. So I'll keep 3 and forget the short address. Thanks for your interest. Nice to talk to a fellow Canadian.

Hi Rich

Thanks for your info. I really don"t have courage to try to install decoders in such a small space. Thanks again. Cheers

Hi Harry

It has been some months since I changed loco numbers in my 44 ton but recently, I purchased a 70 ton with factory DCC onboard and when I put in a new number, with my Power Cab controller I went to the program track option, short address and entered 102, not 0102, just 102. With the NCE system I have unplug the controller and plug back in and address 102 works.

It sounds like you have done this a lot with your present DCC system so maybe a defective decoder.

Can your system read back the CV's? The reason I ask is my NCE can when on the program track.

Just some more thoughts.

Rich

Thanks guys

I've tried all of your suggestions and had no luck. I've programmed many locos with this system and with Digitraxx so I assume there is a fault with the decoders. After all you can't expect too much from an inexpensive loco. Thanks again for your replies.
