StardogWhere to solder the leads to mini-oval speaker? Both sides of the speaker are connected where the leads should go. There are 2 purple leads. One piece of metal in a U shape - they are not separate.
Two purple leads - on the speaker or from the decoder? Soundtrax decoders usually have two purple wires for the speaker.
Neither is it clear from the description where the "U-shape" metal is?
What brand of speaker is it? What scale / size are we talking about here. Is there a photo somewhere we could look at?
Texas Zepher Is there a photo somewhere we could look at?
A picture is worth a thousand confusing descriptions. ;o)
I received an answer to my question about my mini-oval speaker from Tony's Train Exchange.
Thanks anyways.
I would be interested in hearing the answer, too, as I will be trying to install the mini oval into my HO Atlas RSD 4 in the next few days. Thanks.
Answer to wiring the mini-oval speaker:
The U is a horseshoe shaped piece of metal on the back of the speaker. In the center of that horseshoe is a straight piece of metal not touching the horseshoe. The one purple wire from the decoder solders to the center bar, and the other wire goes to either side of the horseshoe.
Thanks, Stardog. Can I be nosy and ask what you're putting the mini-oval speaker into? As posted above, mine is going into a HO Atlas RSD 4. Can't decide yet if I'm going to try putting it in the cab, or try to mill out one of the weights.
shawnee,I dont know the rsd4 but I did a rs3 atlas and milled the front wieght w/beltsander ,time consuming , and I think the sound could be better but its tite in the rs3, have you checked the lichfield station site to see if theres a rsd4 example ? was very helpfull to me . Jerry
Thanks for your input, Jerry. The shell of the Atlas RSD 4/5 looks the same as their RS3. I did check out Litchfield's web page; no RSD4 examples, but they had what I think could be similar installs. I had not been to their website in a long time; lots of good information there.
I plan on doing this install over the weekend. I don't want to hijack the OP's thread, so I will start a new one if (when) I run into problems. Thanks again.
