Digitrax PR3 installation
Posted by retsignalmtr on Monday, December 14, 2009 6:00 PM

Hi. I have just installed a Digitrax PR3 on my computor. Installation went ok, but when I clicked on the finish box, my screen went back to my main menu display. I can't find the program anywhere. There is no shortcut or any listing in my program listings to get me to it. Any ideas that I could try now until I can call digitrax tomorrow. Thanks

I believe all that comes with the PR3 are the drivers, which should do exactly what you describe.  What you need next is either the software to program decoders (i.e. JMRI Decoder Pro) or to download sound files (i.e. Digitrax Soundloader).  I've attached the links.

You need to follow the instructions regarding loading the software from the mini CD that came with the PR3. Digitrax Tech Support will help if you need it.  Use the Digitrax software for downloading sounds to Digitrax sound decoders.

I use Decoder Pro (free) from JMRI with my PR3 to program decoders.  The nice thing about Dedoder Pro is it saves the CVs to a file on the computer.  If you mess up programing a decoder you can open the file in Decoder Pro and send the CVs back to the decoder.

When I installed Soundloader, it ended up here:

C:\Program Files\Digitrax\SoundLoader\SoundLoader.exe

It was some time ago, so I don't recall if that was the default path, but in general I'll do that when I install a new program.  I've had too many installations where they let you change the installation path, but they neglect to inform you that the program won't work anywhere other than where they want it.

You may not be able to immediately see Program Files.  Some computers come set up in "Nanny Mode" so you may need to give yourself permission to access that folder.

Thanks to you all. I did install the PR3 according to the instructions but when I clicked on the finish button the program was installed someplace I couldn't find. I tried to reinstall the disc and was able to create a shortcut to it. Now to download JMRI. Thanks again
