Track feeder wire size for N scale Layout
Posted by 2 by 4 on Saturday, November 21, 2009 5:33 AM

I am building an N scale layout and used Atlas track feeder wire connectors that already had a wire soldered to the track connectors. My plan is to connect these drops to the track bus wire. My question is: I don't know the wire size of the connector, I just know it is small. Will the small wire handle the 5amp booster I will be using?

As long as the feeders are short (in the neighborhood of a foot or less), small wire is fine.

Atlas uses 20 or 22 AWG wire and yes keep your feeders 18 inches or less. Just a thought...depending on how many feeders you will be using, it is much cheaper to make your own or solder directly to the track.

My .02 cents.

Will it present a problem if 18 guage is used at other drops along with the Altas feeder connectors that is 20-22 guage?

Thanks

No problem at all, though 18 gauge is pretty big to solder to the rails!
