Help Needed
Posted by Cadit on Friday, October 30, 2009 5:40 PM

I've just gotten a DCC Bachmann 060 loco today and took it right out of the box. I've set it up to test it out and program but can't get it to run down the track. I did as the instructions said, I programed it and reprogramed it and it still doesn't move. What can I do. I took my meter and checked the track and it has power. Lights do not come on, no sound, nothing.

I still working on my table, so I'm not in a big hurry to lay track or anything. Just wanted to see how this new DCC does.

Please be more specific about the locomotive you have -- only the new Spectrum 0-6-0 Saddle Tank switcher comes DCC equipped.  Is this the one you have?  The default decoder address is 3, so try running it on that.  If you have tried to reprogram the address to something higher than 128, you need to set CV 29 to a value of 34 to tell the decoder to use the long address.  If this doesn't work, try resetting the decoder and start over.

Bachmann makes 3 different 0-6-0 steam engines --

Regular line 0-6-0 switcher with slope back tender.  Not even DCC ready.

Spectrum 0-6-0 Saddle Tank Switcher; DCC On-Board.

Spectrum 0-6-0 G scale switcher with sound; DCC ready.

Is this the one you have?

Well I don't know, it is the old Union Pacfic 4441 stream locomotive by Bachmann. It was a set I got at the local hobby shop. The system it came with is the Bachmann E-Z Command. All that other stuff you were talking about is greek to me, I'm a beginner. I followed the instructions three or four times and still no movement, lights or sound.

If THIS is the locomotive you have, it is NOT DCC equipped or even DCC Ready -- it is one of the cheap Bachmann Standard line engines that will not run with the Bachmann EZ Command unless you can run a locomotive on Address 0 with it.

You need a plain MRC DC power pack or similar.  If your local hobby shop sold it as being a DCC equipped locomotive, take it back and get a refund.

I think it is DCC equipped as he stated that it was from a starter-set, and the UP 0-6-0 with tender is part of the set with a Bachmann commander?!?

Well, as the hobby shops say, "That's the good thing about buying from your local hobby dealer!"

If you followed the instructions then it should have worked right out of the box. I would just take it all back to the dealer and have him show you how to set it up and get it running. If there is some trick other than what is in the instructions, then the dealer should be able to help you out.  That is a service they provide over a mail order house.
