I have unfortunately seen more then one Athearn wired backwards at the motor contacts also on the trucks switched from left to right side pick ups
Good. Now write it down, and put it in a safe place that you will remember. Maybe you've got a shelf for your collection of MR magazines, or a file folder with the instruction sheets for your decoders. Keep a paper copy of all your decoder settings there as well.
One of these days, one of your engines will have a problem. The solution will be to "reset the decoder to its default settings." That will eliminate all your custom settings, and it's a lot easier to just re-program the decoder from a piece of paper than to figure out all the settings from scratch.
I have an Excel spreadsheet for mine, but I printed out a paper copy of the list. One of these days, my disk drive on my computer will get reset to its default settings, too. Won't be the first time.

That's what I did to solve my problem and avoid having to remove the shell again to reverse the motor wires.

Thank You to everyone for their help it all has been worked out. I unfortunately could not turn the leads around and I did consult the online manual and it was able to help I also found out some new stuff that is cool as well, If you program NCE and Digitrax decoders with CV33 at 1 CV34 at 1 and CV 35 at 2 you can get the headlights to work independently of the direction, however did you know that if you reverse 33 and 35 to be 2 and 1 you can control the headlights backwards. this works for those who run long hood forward such as N&W, Southern, NS, and any other railroad. Now for NCE users only you can also program CV 120 to 32 and CV 121 to 36 to dim the corresponding head lights, again if you reverse the programming of the CV's you will be able to dim the corresponding headlights in reverse. SO I say to all of you THANK YOU for all your help and I hope I have now been able to help you.
Read CV29. If it is an even number add 1 to it and write the new odd number to CV29.
If it is an odd number, subtract 1 and write the new even number to CV29.
check in the manual or online for the settings for CV29 usually whatever the setting is adding 1 to it will reverse the direction of operation. John
If it is an 8 pin plug-in decoder, you've simply plugged it in upsidedown. I think there is a CV that can be changed to fix the problem as well, but I've never done that so can't be specific. Decoder manual should have an answer if such is available.
The easiest thing to do is reverse the wires going to the motor.
I have a MRC Prodigy Advance, An Athearn GP60B, NCE D15SR decoder. My problem is that I installed the decoder into the locomotive and it runs reverse of what it is suppose to be. Can some please help a person such as myself who isn't DCC smart to makes this locomotive run in the correct direction.
