Print the file. I do that sometimes as it does get tiring reading the PC display. Print in grey scale to save the color cartridges if the colors are not important to you. Sometimes helps to have a hard copy at the workbench or layout.

As Rich says, reading the manual wouldn't hurt.  Big Smile

I know, read, read, read, I'm getting cross eyed from all this reading. I'm using a Macbook for the first time, Decoder Pro for the first time  and this is only my third decoder install. I spent the last week reading the CVs and speed matching several locos,  they all seem to have different protocall.

I do appreciate the help on this forum. Bow

The LED also flashes when there is a fault. The number of flashes indicates the fault. I do not have the diesel, only the Micro version for steam. The headlight will also flash when there is a fault.

Page 12 of this http://soundtraxx.com/manuals/quickstart.pdf describes the lamps.  It looks like a steady lamp on the side is good.  The one on the end should follow the headlight.

It means the decoder has power and is operating. It is in the instructions.

 Thanks  guys

I finally found the rerference to the plus + side. I fired the SD7 up on program track and read the CVs with Decoder Pro and noticed there is a bright red light on the decoder.  Red can't be good can it?  The decoder is a TSU AT 1000 for EMD 567.
Anyone know what the red light means?

Remember patience is a virtue  Whistling  I may get the hang of this sooner or later.

Thanks again   Big Smile

When you get a decoder, the instructions clearly show you the proper connections. I use the Micro-Tsunami decoders. In DC locomotives, normally the motor plus terminal is to the right rail. Below is a clickable link.

Here is what comes with my decoders.

The motor leads are orange and grey.  The orange one would be the one callled "+".  This would go to the terminal of the motor that was originally hooked to the right rail, as the loco is facing forward, assuming the loco followed the standard convention.  If the loco goes backwards when you think it should go forward, and vice-versa, just switch the orange and black leads.  Getting it backwards won't hurt anything.

The Tsnami installtion manual online has some good drawings of this.

Hi

The Tsunami directions call for a plus and minus for the motor connections on their decoder. Does anyone know which orange or black motor wire is called plus +.
I can't find a reference  to polarity.
thanks
