I had just wired in a programming track and was using it last night. It is wired with a simple on/off toggle switch. I have the Digitrax Empire Builder and all locos so far have Digitrax decoders.
At some point, I had switched from the isolated program track back to power to the whole layout. Then the mistake....I started to program another engine on the program track without shutting off power to the rest of the railroad. There were about 8 other engines that all responded to the CV changes I was making. And I don't recall now what exactly I was trying to program. Anyway, at that point, none of the engines would respond to throttle commands when sellected.
Now I have started to return each engine to default settings (CV8 to 008). After doing this, I can sellect the engine with address 03 and it'll run fine. All the engines I'm trying to correct have 4 digit road numbers. But...now when I program in the 4 digit address, I get no response to the throttle, no lights..etc.. All these engines were running with 4 digit addresses before my goof noted above.

Most of my locos are stored in an engine terminal with DPDT toggles to shut off the track power if i'm not running them. Once I did program a new loco without checking the position of the toggles and ended up changing the addresses of several locos. I also use the Empire Builder and only digitrax decoders. I was able to reprogram the addresses without resetting them back to their default settings.
Id check to see if they still are on 03 ,if not it mite be cv29 (see book) Im not a expert or close ,I have herd that is a danger of the EB . Im sure someone well direct you ....J.W.
In order to get the engines to run on a long address again, you must set CV 29 to a value of 34 in each decoder as you reprogram their address. Some DCC systems do this automatically by going through a series of questions, and some don't. Setting CV 29 as a separate programming step should solve your problem.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions. I found that I had gone into physical register mode (PH) rather than page mode (PG) programming. Everything is back to normal. And I didn't need to tinker with CV29 nor had I done that the first time these engines had addresses entered.

Physical register mode can't be used to program a 4 digit address so it won't automatically set CV29 for an extended address.

I'm using Decoder Pro ( or a least trying) after a speed matching session one of the locos in an "A-B" set would not respond execpt for reading and head lite. I did factory reset ETC. several times, Its now up and running but will not accept it's old road number into CV #1. It will work with other numbers just not the old #62. I used #26 and it works. (decoder NCE D13SR)
Any ideas?

I've never had a decoder that wouldn't accept an address. I'm afraid I can't help. But I bet someone in here can.

I can't talk about the other Digitrax DCC systems, but the Super Empire Builder literature recommends changing addresses from defaults to something else only in Paged Mode. When I use the DT400 throttle that is part of the package, and enter after pressing out the three or four digits of the intended long address, immediately the system beeps and shuts off power to the tracks. At the same time, it prompts the user if they want it to programme CV29 to one enable the long address, and it prompts a "Y" or a "N". It seems at times that even if you press "Y", and go on to restore power and engage the engine with the new address that it won't respond. On a hunch you return to Address 03 and can toot the whistle.
At that point, I have learned to enter Ops Mode and do the change myself, what David referred to as "global". Always always, when I exit and dial up the new address, this time the engine will do what I command.
Lately, though, the Y/N prompt has been working. Don't know why.
