DCC Locomotive Question
Posted by trainfan504 on Sunday, October 4, 2009 5:58 AM
I have a Atlas Silver Series MP15DC with the 8 pin plug for a decoder and when I got the locomotive I also bought a 8 pin NCE D14SR 6 Function Decoder to put in it, I came home too put it in and found out the decoder is too big for the engine, and I was wondering if anybody could help me and tell me where I could get a decoder that would fit the engine or what I could do to make the NCE one fit the engine? The decoder Item number is NCE D14SR and the Locomotives Item number is 9912 from Atlas.

Your best option is to go the NCE's website and look at what they recommend for your application.

I am not sure what the URL is, but keep in mind, the proper name is North Coast Engineering. They have a lot of application info on their site, and will probably have several options that will work.

Another great place to look up decoder installations is Train Control Systems web site. They have installation pictures for almost all the popular locos on the market.

Please take some friendly advice and test ALL locomotives on DC with an ammeter before installing a decoder.  A bad running loco will still run bad with a decoder and I have seen too many disgruntled people that have fried decoders because of amp draw or miswired installation.

       Hope this helps

I pray every day I break even, Cause I can really use the money!

I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Thanks for the help guys as it turns out I went on the NCE site and they had a whole section dedicated to this locomotive and it showed how to install the decoder and now I have it running perfect in DC and DCC! I will be sure to check that website too even though I got it done.
