Loksound and Decoder Pro
Posted by wholeman on Friday, October 2, 2009 3:33 PM

I have a couple questions.  First of all, I have two Loksound decoders that I recently purchased.  These have custom files downloaded to them.  I need to figure out how to set some CV's and remap some functions, and get the ditch lights to operate.  How do I do this?

Second, do I need to buy a programmer for Decoder Pro?  I notice that it is free to download, but can I create a list of CV's from Decoder Pro and manually enter them in through the DCC System.

The Locos are Athearn and the DCC system is NCE.

Thanks in advance.

One option would be to purchase the Digitrax PR3 and PS14.  The PR3, along with a section of track, your computer, a USB cable, and Decoder Pro you will be able to program the CVs and maintain a database of all your locomotives.

The PR3 will not allow you to alter the sound files of your Loksound decoder, for that you will need the Loksound programmer.  If you have any Digitrax programmable sound decoders, the PR3  will allow you to work with those sound files.

I have a PR3 and use the power supply from my Zephyr to power it.  I have no trouble reading and writing CV variables.

The PR3 can be used standalone (no DCC system needed), Simply attach the leads from the PR3 to a section of track, hook up the computer and the power supply, configure Decoder Pro, and you are in business.
