I depend on the type of consisting and whether or not the Zephyr will remain your command station. If it is Universal consisting and the Empire Builder is the new command station, simple answer is no,  as they are controlled by the command station. If they are CV19 consisted the answer is yes regardless of which unit is the command station.

If you continue to use the Zephyr as the command station and use the DB150 from the SEB as a booster, then the consists will remain in tact (assuming Digiotrax Universal consists).  Advanced consists will remain regardless of the configuration.  Make sure you get a newer SEB with a DT402 throttle and not an older one with the DT400.

If you don;t need to run more than 10 trains, consider keeping the Zephyr as the command station and using the DB150 as an additional booster. Your consists will remain, and you won't lose the dedicated program track. If your consists are eating up too many slots, there's always CV19 advanced consisting. The normal command station assisted consisting uses a slot for the consist address (can be one of the locos) plus a slot for each loco in the consist. CV19 consists take up 1 slot. And also work if you pick up the locos and take them to a friend's house.

Agreed. Also, if he uses the DB150 as the command station he'll also lose CV readback capability.
