Digitrax Zephyr defect/questions
Posted by MRRSparky on Thursday, September 3, 2009 12:13 PM

I have a Zephyr just over a year old.  I have been having to reset the status of my loco fleet every time I power-on the system.  Most locos show up at "Tri" but some show up as "28" and only one as "128," after repeatedly resetting the status.

I tried resetting OpSw to default; the display showed the proper "c" reset but no change in loco status developed.  Finally, I called Tech Support and they confirmed what I had done was correct and that the command station was probably defective, so it is off to D for repair.

Questions:

1.  I can read back CVs from Loksound and TCS decoders but neither Soundtraxx LC or Tsunami decoders.  I've learned from reading here that others have no difficulty in reading back these decoders with the Zephyr.  What is the likelihood that my repaired command station will also be able to do that without the need for a programming track booster?  In other words, does anyone have a properly-working Zephyer that cannot read back these two sound decoders?

2.  Over the years I've owned Digitrax equipment (since the first release of the Genesis system, probably 10-15 years ago), I have had to return my original DB150 once for repair and a second time for replacement.  The original UT-2 went back once and the new DT 400 once.  Is this failure rate unusual?  Bear in mind that I am mostly a model builder and seldom run trains.  About the only thing I use the Digitrax system for is initial programming and the occasional running of trains for grandchild.

I can read Tsunami fine on mine, which is working fine.  It went back to D a couple of years ago for a repair (I wired something wrong and blew out the program track electronics) and they fixed it and got it back to me quickly.  Aside from that none of my other D stuff has needed work,
