Need some Loksound decoder help PLEASE
Posted by cudaken on Friday, August 28, 2009 6:16 PM

Sometime ago my PCM Big Boy stopped making chuffing sounds and F buttons shifted to the wrong buttons. Got the chuffing sound going again but F button where still not right. F 5 became F 6 etc.

Today Simon and I got my PR 3 working. I had a brain storm (turned out to be a fart). We read the CV's of my Y-6b that has the same 21 pin Loksound decoder as my Big Boy. I then wrote the Y 6b CV's to the Big Boy and F buttons where back to where they should be! But, there is a problem of course. Y6 b has a light flickering fire box and head light. Big Boy looks to have a lite fire box but has never worked. It all so has lite number boards plus headlight. After writing the Y-6 b CV's to the Big Boy decoder I now have flickering headlight and number boards?

Went to my Loksound Big Book Of Gibberish and set CV 113 to 15 CV114 to 15 and 115 to 15.  Headlight and number board still flickered. Hum, set CV 8 to 8, lights where on solid! Big Smile Bad news there was no sound? Used the Y6 file again and have sound and flickering headlights.

I'm not worried I am sure this with your folks help this can be straighten out. In fact this has been a great train day.

By the way, before it is posted about me being a analog man trying to work in a digital world your right.

Ken:

Use the PR-3 and Decoder Pro.  Read the current configuration of the Big Boy and save it as a new engine.  Then reset the BigBoy to the factory defaults.  If things don't go well you can always reload the settings that you just saved.

Don't know why this is, but the 'ESU' programmer in JMRI does not have access to the effects on the function outputs. Open you file using the 'Comprehensive' programmer and go to the Lights tab, and you will see the various functions and what effect they are set to. For the Big Boy, it must be setting Forward Light to Firebox or one of the other blinking options, set it to either steady or RUle 17 if you want it to dim in reverse. I have no idea what F key is hooked to the number boards, but that function will also probably be set to something that is blinking or flickering, change it as well and you should eb good to go. Since you got the reading via the PR3 to work, just read the current config so it is reflected on the settings page in JMRI.

Hum, I rest to all factory defaults using CV 8 and the PR 3, then entered all the defaults the big book of gibberish said was wrong. Powered it up, no sound and F 2 turns on the headlight?

Guess some people should not play with CV's. Big Smile Reading all the CV's was a snap, why they did not work, because I own it!
