Well, I found the earlier discussion and while it didn't go specifically to the question posed, it did lead me to an MR article (Oct. '08) about such an installation.  That is quite helpful in detailing what is to be done to make a DC to DCC Sound upgrade for an early AG F unit and I'd reccomend it for insight into that job.

Do any of you guys have more current experience (newer decoders, etc.) that would update the information in the article?

Ah!  That's what I was looking for!  Clearly just missed it.

Thanks

Just to the right of this screen you should see a box with the words Search Community in it.  You can put your screen name in the box and then hit the search button.  I did this and came up with 103 posts in the electronics and DCC section.  I didn't search the other flavors.  So if you know which post is the one you are looking for, you can find it that way.

I posted this question a number of months ago, but cannot find the thread (what happend to the old threads?), so, with apologies, here it is again.

I am considering an AG F-7 A/B set from the very first run (c2004) and I understand these may not be plug 'n play DCC ready, but I could be wrong.  I want full function and sound, so what are my best and EASIEST options?  I'm not a sound snob, so sound of cab door opening and closing is not essential.

Thanks.
