The AS-16's are tighter than they look. There's practically no clearance fromt he top of the board to the top of the shell, that's partly why the decoder plug is on the bottom of the board. There is some room hanging down from the board. At least, this is the case with the ones that I have, witht he LEDs on the board. It takes a small direct-plug decoder, I used a TCS DP2X in mine. The board is not an Atlas type, an Atlas/Athearn board replacement decoder would not be a direct repalcement for the factory board in the AS-16.It might be possible to rig a mounting, but the AS-16 board screws to metal posts in front and back of the motor with 4 screws. There's also little clearance under the board over the motor - space is at either end over the universals.

Roger,
David has sugesteded a winner. I have several ATLAS locomotives with Tsunami, Sountraxx (old), etc. The ATLAS has a weight forward and behind on the chassis. At first I removed part of the weight with a hack saw. Now I just remove the whole weight, front or back. The loco's are heavey enough even w/o one of these. You still have room for the addition of strip lead or split shot weight if you think you need it.
The speaker goes where the weight was and the decoder can go where the light board is.
Another thing I did was face the speakers downward. These give plenty of sound and the new and old Sountraxx does the best job with the Alco's spooling up etc.
I have also drilled a hundred tiny hoiles in the Alco fan, this is also a waste of time as the speakers with the bafels are sufficiently load and handle the base well.
You may need to re route the lighting.

I recently traded some stuff for a pair of Atlas HO RS-3's and a Stewart AS-16. I'm pretty much a steam guy but I kinda like these engines. I have Tsunamis in most of my steam and want sound in the diesels too.
The RS-3's just don't look like they have enough room for anything under the hoods that isn't already there! The AS-16 looks like it has possibilities.
Has anyone installed a Tsunami in these units successfully? Any tips on how to fit it inside?
Thanks,
Roger Huber
