The 3 most important pieces of info when asking the forum for advice on DCC are:
Which decoder. Brand name is the most important, but model sometimes matters, too.
Which DCC system. The user interface is very different for each, and sometimes there are issues specific to one system vs. another.
Programming track or programming on the main. Different things happen.
One thing's for sure, though. This is probably not really happening. Can you read back the value in the decoder on your system? Some can't, but if you can do that, I think you'll find that things are not as they seem.
If nothing else, do the engines behave as if the settings are the way you want them, or do they behave as if they are all the same?

Interesting. When you were changing the CV's and did CV2...say changed it to 40, I guess. When you go to CV3 it will read 40 because that is the last value you inputed into the DT400...you then need to set the value of CV3 to what you want and so on for CV4. If you are just changing CV2 you just exit. This may a simple solution to your problem without all the in depth analysis of the problem. I know I was confused momentarily the first time I changed CV 2,3,&4 until I realized what was going on. You may not have to read more into this than that. Of course the advice about program tracks and programming on the main hold true. I don't have that many locos so when I need to program one I just pull the rest off the layout and program on the main.

Are you using a programming track or in ops mode?

This is happening with multiple decoders or just one decoder? Are you programing on the main? If your programing on the main are all the decoders different addresses and have CV29 set for 4 digit address? If they are multiple decoders are all the version # the same? Maybe a software glitch or even a faulty decoder. Is the value you add to the CV valid? Some decoder only recognize 0-15 or 0-9 for momentum and deceleration.

There's no way all three CVs can get changed unless something is really squirrely with your DCC system malfunctioning.
I recently have been programming Digitrax decoders and have noticed on CV 2, 3, and 4 regardless of what I set for one, the same setting shows up in the other two. In other words, if I change CV 4 and, for instance, go from 50 to 40, the other two are also changed to the same setting. The way I read the books these are three separate settings and wonder if anyone has some insight.
