Need advice for DCC Auto Reversing Section
Posted by jamnest on Saturday, June 27, 2009 1:42 PM

I have a Digitrax System to run my home layout; DCS100 (command station) and two DB150 (boosters).  My home layout is a large around the walls domino shelf layout.  I work away from home and I am constructing a small switching layout for a spare bedroom in my apartment.  The layout will consist of dominos which will eventually be included in my home layout.  This allows me to run trains and work on the layout dominos away from home.  Since the home layout has multiple power districts, a reversisng section is not a problem.

I have pulled one of the DB150s from the home layout to use in the apartment layout.  This layout has a wye and I will need to set up a DCC reversing section off of the one booster.  I would appreciate recommendations from those of you who have used DCC automated reversing devices, as it might apply to my apartment layout.  Which type of reverser would you suggest and why?

THANKS

I have one from Tony's Trains.  It's one of the older models, but the current model is an upgrade from this one.

The Tony's unit is all solid state.  The power switching is done with transistors.  That is much faster than cheaper relay-based units, and it's also silent.  In general, solid-state circuits will outlive relay-based ones, too.

The unit has a built-in circuit breaker, so you don't need a separate one for your wye.  I think mine handles 2 amps, which is way more than should be needed.

Overall, it's been a great product.  It's been in place for 3 years now with no issues at all.

The newer product at Tony's is the PSX-AR by DCC Specialties.  I concur that both the old and new products are great.
