Blueline sd40-2 decoder
Posted by nemix on Friday, May 22, 2009 3:41 PM

I have one of the newly released blueline sd40-2s on the way with the build in DC sound decoder.  In blueline's recomended list there is a digitrax 2fx and a 4fx listed.  I have a 2fx decoder handy already, but I'm trying to find out if there are sounds or other features I'll not be able to use if I just put in the 2fx vs ordering a 4fx decoder.

 Thanks

Get the 4fx.  There is no harness and will plug directly into the socket.  The space is limited and the harness would just bunch things up.  Also you will probably have to use the revese bit which won't be a problem. When the chip is installed the engine will run backwards.  Setting the reverse bit will fix it.  I suggest you visit the BLI forums on setting up the decoder.  It's a little tricky since you will have 2 decoders.  Sound and Engine.  You'll be pleased with it though. I have an SD40-2 from the last run and love it.

Good Luck

when it comea to setting the loco decoders up  i programme the sound decoder number first   then put the drive decoder into a chassis with a 8 pin socket  then programme the number into that decoder...  never had a problem   i can check every function on the  " programme " loco before putting the decoder into the sound loco    i have 14 sound locos and have no problems so far  ...  recently had a dud decoder and i could identify the problem before i even opened up the broadway loco.....  peter
