Not taking CV's
Posted by kurtdewald on Sunday, May 17, 2009 3:54 PM

I just got a Digitrax SFX0416 sound decoder and hooked it into a Digitrax DH163 decoder.  I want to make it louder and it says the CV 58 controls master volume, and it has a range of 0-15.  I am using a Digitrax Zephyr controler.  when I read back the value of CV 58 it says  d255 in the page mode.  Im lost.

If both decoders use CV 58, you're going to get a mixed message since the Zephyr will read both CV 58s at the same time.  You may need to program each decoder separately before putting them together.

Good advice, but Digitrax motor decoders do not use CV58 - Digitrax designed their soudn decoders so that they DIDN'T have overlapped CV values, so that they would be easier to use in conjunction with a seperate motor decoder.  The problem is seen in the Installation section of the manual, item number 2:

Note that to be able to readback Sound FX CV’s a

combination of function lead loads of at least 60mA at 12volts should be

connected to these function leads.

With no load on the function outputs, you shoudl still be able to write CV values, you just won't be able to read them back.
